Game 60: A’s vs. Brewers

Game Notes:

A’s: 35-24

Brewers: 21-35

Game two of three against the Brewers on this 7 game road trip.

The  A’s have won 15 of 17 and are off to their best start in 22 years. Griffin, however has scuffled as of late and has posted a 5.71ERA in his past three starts.

  1. The A’s battered the Brewers 10-2 in the first game of the series. Coco Crisp was 4-for-5 with a home run to lead off the game. He also picked up a double, scored two runs and is now hitting .300.
  2. Josh Reddick has apologized for the sunflower seed incident in Houston.
  3. Hiro Nakajima was 1-for-4 last night with a pair of walks, and he was also picked off. Nakajima, who is not hitting .319 for the River Cats, has the day off.

Parker has thrown four straight quality starts, the A’s have won 13 of 15 and are on the verge of sweeping the White Sox.

  1. Josh Reddick was taking all the way as he earned a walk-off walk. Reddick has now provided the game-winning RBI in both of the games he has played in since coming off the DL.
  2. Dan Straily picked up 8 K’s over 6 innings, and has now allowed just two runs during his last three starts, a stretch of 19 innings.
  3. The A’s collected 16 hits last night. Jed Lowrie had 4, and Seth Smith was the only starter without a hit.
  4. Hiro Nakajima picked up 2 hits last night for a third straight game as he played short and was 2-for-5 with a run scored. He’s now hitting .317 through 20 games and 82 at bats for the River Cats. Bob Melvin said that Nakajima is “certainly putting himself in position” for a recall.
  5. Susan Slusser reported that Brett Anderson has begun to throw, kind of. The lefty has been throwing off one knee, and is scheduled to be re-evaluated on June 14.

Game 56: White Sox vs. A’s

Dylan Axelrod (3-3) 4.21 ERA vs. Bartolo Colón (5-2) 3.82 ERA

Colon goes for his third win in four starts as the A’s open up a three game weekend set with Chicago. The 40-year-old right hander leads the league with an average of .59 walks allowed per nine innings.

  1. Coco Crisp collected three of the team’s five hits yesterday as they dropped the finale 5-2 to the Giants. Crisp is now hitting .359 in his past 10 games.
  2. Josh Reddick returns to the A’s tonight as Luke Montz is optioned back to Sacramento. In four games with the Ports and River Cats Reddick was 3-for 14 (.214) with three walks, five runs, two stolen bases, but zero extra base hits.
  3. Jane Lee tweeted that the A’s are now 8-12 in day games and 24-12 at night.
  4. Casper Wells returns to the Coliseum tonight. The outfielder was 0-for-5 during with three game stint with the Athletics earlier this year before getting DFA’d for third time this season. With the White Sox Wells is 3-for-17 (.176) in 10 games.
  5. Mychael Urban returns with a new iteration of “Urbs Unchained.”
  6. The team has released a new commercial featuring the duo of Grant Balfour and Sean Doolittle.

Bartolo Colon (4-2) vs.  Dallas Keuchel (1-1)

Bartolo Colon goes for his fifth win of the season, and the second of the road trip. Colon celebrated his 40th birthday early this week. The A’s have won seven of their last eight games, and all eight against the Astros in 2013.

A’s walk off in 19th against Angels

Brandon Moss cracked a two-run walk off home run in the 19th inning as the A’s defeated the Angels 10-8. The A’s twice came back, and trailed the Angels 7-2 in the eighth inning.  The game was the longest in Oakland A’s history.

Post Game Reading List:

  1. Coco Crisp (hamstring-13th), Chris Young (quad-15th), and Brett Anderson (ankle-18th) all left the game early. Anderson ended up throwing 79 pitches on a night when he was originally scratched from his start. The team will most likely need to recall an outfielder and pitcher for tomorrow Tuesday night’s game.
  2. Young hit what appeared to have been a walk off in the ninth. Young had originally pinch hit for Reddick in the 8th.
  3. Jed Lowrie collected his 34th hit and tied a team record for April. He also tied a team record with 11 doubles.
  4. Seth Smith is 10-for-19 against left handers this season.
  5. The Angels bullpen has allowed 17 runs to the A’s in four games.
  6. The A’s lead the MLB with 145 runs, but have also been shut out three times.
  7. Casper Wells has been traded to Chicago. After being designated for assignment three times in the first month, the White Sox will be Wells fourth team of the season.
  8. Daric Barton is now the all-time leader in runs scored in River Cats history.
  9. In game two of the series Jarrod Parker will look to earn his first win on the final day of the month. He faces off against Garrett Richards.
